In just a little over two years, location-based social network Foursquare has amassed more than 10 million users.

To mark the milestone Foursquare tallied up some of its most notable check-ins and fun facts - 225 weddings at NY City Hall, 1,061 birth announcements on hospital check-ins, plus check-ins at 6,230 sake bars in Japan and 1,105 beer halls in Germany.

According to the company, Foursquare users are generally a happy bunch, reporting a ratio of 6 "Yays!" to one "Ugh!" around the globe as they check in.

In June Adweek reported that more than 400,000 companies were using Foursquare to connect with customers around the globe.

Market researcher comScore found that one in five smartphone owners in the US use check-in services such as Facebook Places, Gowalla or Foursquare in a study released in May.

"Although still in their relative infancy, location-based mobile check-in services are seeing rather impressive adoption among smartphone users," said Mark Donovan, comScore senior vice president of mobile.
