The first episode in the Mortal Kombat: Legacy webseries, broadcasting April 12, features as part of the launch of YouTube Live.

Episode one will stream from 4pm PST (midnight BST) following four hour's worth of Mortal Kombat gameplay and chat from Machinima staffers Hutch and Sark as well as Legacy director Kevin Tancharoen and mystery guests.

Tancharoen's intention to helm a Mortal Kombat production surfaced in June 2010 after uploading a short film to YouTube.

It had been intended for private use as part of a pitch to Warner Bros executives but soon became a viral sensation.

The Legacy webseries coincides with the release of a new Mortal Kombat game for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, due April 19 and two days later in Europe.

YouTube's transition towards live video encroaches on territory traditionally held by sites such as Ustream and Justin.tv; the Google-owned enterprise is also hosting live broadcasting from the Indian Premier League with a Coachella 2011 webcast scheduled to start Friday, April 15.

Mortal Kombat: Legacy will stream from http://www.youtube.com/user/machinima.
