Most followed microbloggers tweet up and sign off for US Independence Day

US microbloggers were getting an early start on Independence Day celebrations with patriotic posts.

Ashton Kutcher announced he was switching off for the day, tweeting "Everyone have an amazing 4th! I'm taking a digital hiatus. independence day unplugged."

Justin Bieber marked the occasion with the hashtag "#holidayweekend" while Katy Perry used the hashtag "#Americafuckyeah" to wish her followers a happy Fourth of July.

Country music darling Taylor Swift shared the news that she would be postponing her Louisville show to October 11 via her Twitter account.

Taiwanese actress Dee Hsu quietly climbed up the most followed bloggers ladder, replacing Britney Spears as the fifth most popular microblogger around the globe.

South Korean actor Jung Kyung Ho also moved up the charts, pushing American singer Taylor Swift out of 13th place on the global microblogging chart.

In September 2010, Twitter had 175 million registered users, while Sina reports that Weibo had more than 140 million registered users in May 2011.
