Motorola's reboot of iconic Razr folding phone

Leaked images have revealed what the highly-anticipated Motorola Razr foldable smartphone might look like, less than two weeks ahead of its official unveiling.

Notorious leaker Evan Blass and Dutch site Mobielkopen published pictures of the device, which features the iconic clamshell design of the original Motorola Razr V3.

Fifteen years after the launch of the first Razr, the latest images will feel familiar to fans of the original folding phone.

But the sleek foldable design is about the only feature that remains the same, with major technological upgrades expected to transform the handset for the smartphone era.

The 2019 makeover was previously teased in a video shared to the Weibo page of Motorola's parent company Lenovo.

The revamping of the Razr flip phone is part of a new trend among phone makers to feature a folding design, with Huawei and Samsung among those offering foldable phones.

The most prominent has been the Galaxy Fold, which Samsung was forced to delay due to complications with the folding mechanism.

Similar to the $2,000 Galaxy Fold, the innovative design of the Motorola Razr will likely come at a premium price for consumers, with estimates from analysts suggesting it will cost around $1,500.

The high price may prevent it from achieving a similar level of mainstream success to its predecessor, which sold more than 130 million units around the world.

No details have been officially given about the new Razr but various rumours suggest it will come with mid-range smartphone specs, with 4GB of RAM and a Snapdragon 710 processor.

Motorola has described the new phone as "an original unlike any other" and will reveal the full specs and details at a launch event on 13 November.
