OnePlus has unveiled its latest flagship smartphone, the OnePlus 6, with the Chinese smartphone maker hoping to compete for market share against other premium handsets from Apple and Samsung.

The One Plus 6, revealed at a launch event in London on Wednesday, features 256GB of storage, a 6.28-inch screen and is water resistant.

The OnePlus 6 also features a 20 megapixel rear camera and a 16 megapixel front-facing camera.

Unlike other high-end smartphones, such as the iPhone X and Huawei Mate 10, OnePlus opted to keep the headphone jack, despite also unveiling the OnePlus Bullets Wireless headphones.

The headphones feature fast charging, meaning they can deliver five hours of use with just 10 minutes of charging.

OnePlus has billed its latest smartphone device as 'The Speed You Need' – offering a powerful Snapdragon 845 internal processor.

Speaking at the unveiling, OnePlus CEO Carl Pei said: "We believe that the pursuit of the ultimate speed is what all devices should strive for... This is the fastest flagship experience OnePlus has ever created."

The first OnePlus smartphone was launched in 2014, branding itself the 'Flagship Killer'. It offered similar specs to many of the premium handsets on the market from established manufacturers, however at $299 the OnePlus One significantly undercut the price of its better-known rivals.

Despite being less than five years old, OnePlus is already garnering the same kind of cult-like enthusiasm that Apple enjoys for the release of each new iteration of its iPhone.

It has also had considerable success in certain markets, with the OnePlus 5T becoming the best-selling premium smartphone in India.

The OnePlus 6 will be available from May 22 and is available for pre-order immediately. The price of the device is £469 for the 64Gb version and it will be available in the colours mirror black, midnight black and silk white.

The Bullets Wireless headphones will be available from 5 June for £69.

The event at the Copper Box Arena in London was livestreamed and is available to watch below.
