Galaxy Fold: Pictures of Samsung's foldable phone leak hours ahead of launch

One intriguing detail revealed by the latest leak is the inclusion of an asymmetric notch on the main screen

Samsung has managed to keep details of its Galaxy Fold phone relatively secret – at least compared to its forthcoming Galaxy S10 flagship.

But with just hours to go until its expected unveiling, a slew of leaked images appear to have revealed key details of the ground-breaking device.

Both devices are set to be officially unveiled at Samsung's Unpacked event on 20 February, alongside a new Galaxy Watch smartwatch and wireless Galaxy Buds headphones.

Samsung previously teased the foldable phone – originally thought to be called the Galaxy X – in November, during an event that largely took place in the dark.

The device was described by Samsung Senior Vice President Justin Denison as "the foundation of the smartphone of tomorrow".

It will feature an Infinity Flex Display, which was shown in a since-deleted video published to the Samsung Vietnam YouTube channel.

The screen is expected to fold inwards, with another smaller screen on the front of the device.

The exact price for the Galaxy Fold is not yet known, though the Korea Times has previously reported that the phone is anticipated to cost around 2 million won (£1,380).

The same publication reported the inclusion of 5G technology within the device, though this would only be available in regions that support the next-generation mobile communications network.

Samsung is not the only phone maker to have developed a folding smartphone, with Huawei and Xiaomi among the major manufacturers to hint at similar devices.

Chinese startup Royole has already unveiled its own version of the technology with its FlexPai smartphone.

It is unclear how much consumer demand there is for folding smartphones, though Royole CEO Bill Liu claimed during the launch of the FlexPai that it will "forever change" the smartphone industry.
