Samsung opens reservations for Galaxy S10 weeks ahead of release date

'We know you know what is coming soon,' Samsung says on its website, revealing when people can pre-order the much-hyped phone

Samsung Galaxy S10: Five best features to expect in the new smartphone

Samsung has opened up reservations for its forthcoming flagship smartphone, expected to be called the Galaxy S10.

The South Korean technoogy giant will unveil the next-generation device on 20 February, potentially alongside a foldable smartphone called the Galaxy X.

Pre-orders for the Galaxy S10 will begin on 21 February, with anyone who reserves the phone through Samsung's website assured of receiving the device on its official release date on 8 March.

Samsung has not officially revealed many details about its next phones, though numerous leaks mean there is little that remains a mystery.

The Galaxy S10 is expected to come in three versions, each varying in size, specs and price. The standard Galaxy S10 will be complimented by an entry-level Galaxy S10e and a premium Galaxy S10+.

A message on Samsung's website offers visitors the chance to "reserve the next Galaxy," without specifying the name or type of device.

"We know you know what is coming soon," Samsung stated on its website. "Reserve today and save up to $550 on your next Galaxy device."

The discount will be dependent on whether the person buying the new smartphone has an eligible device to trade in.

Top-of-the-line iPhones – including the iPhone XR, iPhone XS and iPhone X – will fetch the full amount, however older iPhones like the iPhone 5S can only be traded for $50.

Anyone hoping to reserve the new Samsung Galaxy device will need to create a Samsung account.

"If you do not return to Samsung.com or the App to complete your order, your reservation will be cancelled automatically and you will no longer have reserved priority for placing an order to receive the next Galaxy device," Samsung's terms and conditions state.

"Your ability to place an order going forward will be subject to availability of devices and any shipping times available at the time of your order."
