Samsung has finally announced the launch date of its next flagship smartphone, expected to be called the Galaxy S10.

The South Korean technology giant sent an invite to media for an event in London on 20 February, titled Unpacked.

The invite states: "Samsung Electronics will unveil new devices that promise to usher in new Galaxy experiences based on 10 years of innovations."

A parallel event is likely to take place in the US, while the actual release date for the Galaxy S10 is expected to be on 8 March.

Three versions of the device are likely to be announced at the London event, each varying in size, specs and price.

The standard Galaxy S10 will feature a 6.1-inch screen, according to previous leaks, while an entry-level version called the Galaxy S10 E will have a 5.8-inch screen.

A high-end model called the Galaxy S10+ will come with a 6.4-inch screen and will cost up to £1,399.

All three devices will feature improved camera technology compared to their predecessors, with recent leaks suggesting they will borrow an effect usually found in traditional DSLR cameras.

A trademark for Artistic Live Focus explains how software will create "digital animation and special effects of images."

Other rumours surrounding the Galaxy S10 include a self-healing screen capable of repairing itself after being scratched.

A Samsung patent spotted back in August describes "an anti-fingerprinting composition having a self-healing property, and a film, a laminate, and a device including the anti-fingerprinting composition," for use in a "portable electronic device such as a smart phone or tablet."

The patent did not mention any specific device, meaning it could be saved for a future phone or tablet.
