Apple embraces snail mail: Steve Jobs to appear on US postage stamp

The tech visionary is being honoured among other iconic American figures and will appear on stamps from 2015

It’s an oddly analogue celebration of a digital master, but the U.S. Postal Service has approved a new stamp featuring the likeness of late Apple founder Steve Jobs.

A leaked document obtained by The Washington Post shows that the stamp is currently “in design development” but is slated to be released in 2015.

Jobs, who died on 5 October 2011, will join a number of other deceased American icons including Elvis Presley, Fats Waller and Michael Jackson. The creator of the iPod and iPhone will be the only technology related figure on the list - although “video games” are also listed as an abstract possibility.

The designs of American stamps are chose by the Citizens’ Stamp Advisory Committee, a body that selects subjects that are “contemporary, timely, relevant, interesting and educational”.

And for Apple fans in the UK who want to embrace snail mail in honour of Jobs the Royal Mail offers ‘Smiler’ stamps featuring a custom image. The website suggests that the personalised stamps might be saved for featuring loved ones, but for some Apple fans, Jobs will certainly come into that category.
