Consumers waste £195 a year because they are on the wrong mobile phone tariff, researchers have found.

Comparison service billmonitor analysed 28,417 mobile bills and found that 76 per cent of people on monthly contracts were paying more than they needed to. In total, consumers overpay £4.9bn per year.

Half of those were paying for a larger call, text and data allowance than they needed.
