Video streaming dog collar allows owners to watch their pets' every move

For the dog who already has everything comes the latest in canine technology – a smart collar.

Allowing dogs and their owners to remain constantly in touch, the Motorola Scout 5000 is effectively the world’s first commercial smartphone for pooches.

The small device, attached to a customised collar, allows users to see exactly what their pet does through a live stream video feed, as well as tracking the animals’’ location, monitoring their health – even allowing owners to speak to their dogs.

A built-in microphone, developed with video-streaming company Hubble, allows dogs to ‘talk’, or rather bark, back at their interfering humans.

The Scout 5000 is reportedly splash, paw and chew proof, although online reviews note the size of the device mean that it is only suitable for larger hounds and owners (or dogs) will need separate data plans to get the full use of the device.

Revealed at the CES technology show the collar will retail at $199 (£130) in a limited release in June.

Amore compact version – suitable for smaller dogs – will be released at the same time for $99, but will not feature live-video streaming possibilities.

Although not the first such offering for tech-savvy pet owners, the Scout 5000 does represent a significant step up dog lovers who want to know more about what their hounds get up to.
