The Web 3.0 will take place in California during the week of January 25, but all eyes will be on Apple's January 27 press event, where the company is largely expected to release their rumored tablet computer.

The conference highlights the ways in which businesses and individuals can harness these new technologies and investigates the future of the connected world. Text on the press conference invitations reads, "Come and see our latest creation" fuelling the assumption that Apple will announce their coveted "tablet" at the press-only event. Insider information also points to the possible unveiling of all-new MacBook Pro laptops, iPhone 4.0 and a cloud-based iTunes store that will run natively in internet browsers.

Over 100 worldwide tournament locations have been officially registered as venues for the 48-hour game-making frenzy, where competitors are organized into adhoc teams before attempting to churn out one of the best games of the tournament. The top entries are then put forward for March's prestigious Game Developers Conference in San Diego.
