Weekly high-tech product releases: 3D laptop, 3D camera, 24ct iPhone 4

High-tech product releases announced the week ending July 21 include the world's first interchangeable lens camcorder, the first 3D laptop from LG, triple layer Blu-ray discs from Sharp, the world's smallest 3D digital cameras, a luxury phone you can design yourself, an iPhone 4 made out of solid gold, and designer wireless speakers.

The world's first consumer interchangeable lens HD camcorder
Sony's Handycam NEX-VG10E is the first consumer video camera to support interchangeable lenses and also the first to come equipped with an extra-large Exmor APS HD CMOS sensor allowing for "cinematic background defocus effects" previously only found on professional video cameras. Additional features include 1920x1080 high definition video capture at up to 24Mb per second, Quad Capsule Spatial Array Stereo Microphone, a 3.0 LCD swivel display, and the ability to capture DSLR-quality (14 megapixel) still images. The NEX-VG10 will be available from September in the US, October in Europe for about $2,000. Presales start on July 14 from www.sonystyle.com.

The first 3D-capable laptop from LG
LG makes its first entry into the 3D laptop market with a 3D-capable notebook computer called the LG R590 3D. The LG R590 3D is equipped with a 15.6-inch screen, an Intel Core i7 processor, SRS Tru-Surround HD, and an optional Blu-ray drive. Included in the package is one pair of slim, lightweight polarized glasses. The LG R590 3D will be launched in Korea in July. The notebook will become available globally in the weeks to follow. No official price was announced but according to some reports the notebook will be priced from $1,331.

The biggest-capacity Blu-ray discs ever made
Sharp has crafted a recordable Blu-ray disc that can hold up to four seasons of a television series on one disc. The 100 gigabyte "VR-100BR1" disc is compatible with Sharp's newly announced dual Blu-ray player-recorders the "BD-HDW700" and "BD-HDW70." The triple-layer Blu-ray discs will be available in Japan on July 30 for around 5,000 yen (60 dollars) each. The Blu-ray players are expected to sell for 300,000 yen (3,450 dollars) (BD-HDW700) and 200,000 yen (2,300 dollars) (VR-100BR1).

The world's smallest 3D digital still cameras
Sony's newest Cyber-shot cameras, the DSC-TX9 and the DSC-WX5, are the world's smallest 3D cameras. They are the first in Sony's range to utilize a single-lens, the 3D Sweep Panorama system to capture stereoscopic images and have features that let you view simulated 3D images on the cameras' LCD screen. The TX9 comes with a 3.5 inch LCD touchscreen and a 4x (25-100mm) wide-angle Carl Zeiss lens while the WX5 has a 2.8 inch LCD touchscreen and a 5x (24-120mm) Sony G lens. Both models capture full 1920x1080 HD video and 12.2 megapixel images. The TX9 and WX5 cameras will be available online from www.Sonystyle.com/ retail in September. The TX9 is priced at $400, the WX5 at $300.

An ultra-slim luxury phone priced at the lower end of expensive
Luxury mobile phone maker Bellperre has developed an Italian design-inspired handset that the company says is priced for the masses. Crafted from metal, sapphire crystal and leather, the quadband device known only as the "Bellperre" comes with a 2.2 inch display, a 5 megapixel camera, GPS, accelerometer, FM radio, email and support for up to 80 languages. Don't like the look of the one in the picture? Bellperre will let you design your own from materials such as polished silver, 18K rose gold, 24K yellow gold, and 125 leather options including lizard, buffalo, shark or crocodile. Pricing and availability are dependent on customization.

A 24ct solid gold iPhone 4
Stuart Hughes, the maker of frightfully expensive diamond-encrusted mobile phones and iPads, has come up with an option for those who don't like diamonds - a tailor-made 24-carat solid gold iPhone 4. The phone has a re-created chassis handcrafted from start to finish from around 150 grams of 24ct gold. It sells for a not-too-cheap £21,995 (33,490 dollars, 26,134 euros) and is available now from www.stuarthughes.com.

Wireless speakers that shout design
Wireless device maker Parrot has teamed up with industrial designer Philippe Starck to create a new range of colorful stereo speakers. The iconic Zikmu speakers are paired with a web interface for wireless connectivity, enabling the user to stream audio via WiFi or Bluetooth from their PC or mobile phone.
