Weekly video game news: 'Portal 2' free, Nintendo 3DS priced

Rounding up video game news for the week ending January 21, in which Valve Software announced that PlayStation 3 copies of Portal 2 would enable free downloads of the PC and Mac versions, and Nintendo laid out European and North American launch details for March's handheld 3DS.

Portal 2: The PlayStation 3 version, when linked to a Steam Network account, will unlock a complimentary PC and Mac version of the game. PS3 players will also be able to play and chat with PC and Mac players.

Nintendo 3DS: Nintendo's no-glasses 3D successor to the best-selling DS will go on sale in North America on March 27 for $249, and in Europe on March 25. The European price is set by retailers, topping out at about €249 / £229. Dates for launch games to follow.

International Mobile Gaming Awards: Nominees for the February 17 ceremony were announced, and include Fruit Ninja, Plants vs Zombies, Championship Manager 2011 and Let's Golf 2, EpicWin, Infinity Blade and Real Racing 2. Interactive Achievement Awards: Nominees for the February 10 ceremony were announced, and include Angry Birds, Call of Duty: Black Ops, God of War III, Mass Effect 2 and Red Dead Redemption. The event will be streamed live from the DICE Summit at http://www.G4tv.com/DICE.
