X down: Twitter app crashes in another major outage

X users have reported problems with the app, website and timeline function

X, formerly Twitter, is experiencing an outage on Sunday afternoon.

Those affected have raised problems using the app and website for the social media platform to tracking website Down Detector, which showed the number of reports spiking at 4.12pm.

A small proportion of reports also pointed at problems with the platform’s feed or timeline.

One person wrote: “Well app and website isn’t showing posts so it’s down.” They then added: “Wait now, the feed works but not seeing notifications.”

Another wrote: “Comments not loading, says retry alot.”

Down detector captures issues with websites and apps by receiving online reports from users.

Last month, X was also hit with a major outage, on 16 January, when users reported that the site and its app was not loading, with visitors instead seeing a blank screen.

Elon Musk’s platform has also hit the headlines over the creation of a deepfake images using the AI tool Grok. Last month he bowed down to pressure, with restrictions imposed on the tool on “editing of images of real people in revealing clothing such as bikinis”.

The climbdown was a rare victory for Sir Keir Starmer, who was piling pressure on the tech billionaire to take action over the row.
