Dog 'adopts' monkey in Columbia after losing puppies

A dog that recently lost its five puppies has befriended a monkey in the Colombian city of Cartagena.

Residents of the Olaya Herrera neighbourhood took the Capuchin monkey from its natural habitat only weeks after birth and gave it to the mixed breed dog to soothe its pain from losing its puppies.

The two became inseparable, but the monkey would become aggressive when people approached them.

Environmental and Ecological Protection Police took custody of the animals to consider separating them and sending the monkey back to its home in the wild.

However, it is not known whether the other Capuchins would welcome the monkey back into the wild.
