Armed robbers hit New York jewellery store for $4m

Police are searching for a group of three men who allegedly stole up to $4m (£3.2m) worth of goods from a New York jewellery store.

The robbers held employees at gunpoint at midday on Sunday, before making off with valuables from Avianne & Co. in the city's diamond district.

The shop's clientele includes rappers Lil Wayne and Nicki Minaj.

The group posed as customers and were buzzed into the store in midtown Manhattan.

Footage from security cameras shows workers being threatened with guns and lying on the floor as the thieves clean out display cases.

As the men did not wear masks and their faces are clearly visible in the footage.

The haul, which included watches, rings, necklaces and other ornaments, is worth up to $4m according to WABC-TV sources.

No arrests have yet been reported in the case.
