Peter Knights spoke as 200 political leaders, conservationists and businesspeople from Africa and around the world gathered in the foothills of Mount Kenya to find ways of protecting Africa’s elephants and ending the poaching crisis that has left them facing extinction.

At the two-day Giants Club summit, which climaxes today with the burning of Kenya's entire ivory stockpile, African heads of state joined other politicians, the UN, wildlife groups, scientists, and businesses as they announced crucial frontline measures to conserve the elephant population.
