The remarks made today by Cambridge University’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Alison Richard, have rightly been interpreted as a broadside at the government’s ‘meddling’ in the admissions policies of Britain’s universities, but they should also draw our attention to what is arguably a more pressing issue for Britain’s economy and wider social diversity: the lamentable status of Oxbridge within our society.
