What is it about the British that we are so allergic to "good" news? The response to my pointing out the simple arithmetical fact that the vast majority of Britons will be markedly better off financially this year than last was vitriolic. I am, apparently, a smug I'm-all-right-Jack, and a New Labour propagandist despite the fact that the Prime Minister would rather it weren't said.
