We all know that the British, being the most dysfunctional nation in Europe, live in a perpetual world of their schooldays. Hence the success of Friends Reunited, the website that brings schoolfriends, and enemies, back together to discuss the joyous days of childhood comradeship in their boarding schools as well as gossip about the many deficiencies of their teachers and parents.

But are other nations just as bad? Have the children of France been so scattered that they long to find where their smocked friends are, or do they all remain in the same town to gossip away without the need of the internet? Do those Germans wish to relive the memories of high discipline and hard work, or prefer to forget them as soon as they have left? By going global, Friends Reunited may find out, or least provide the answer to that age-old question – is it sex, or the lack of it, that leaves the British so imprisoned in their childhood?
