What do the Tate Modern, the Bank of England, St Pancras station and now the Stock Exchange have in common? With the installation of two hives on the roof of the London Stock Exchange, these landmarks will all have their own bee colonies – part of a trend towards eco-awareness in the city.

The new chief executive of the LSE, a Frenchman, also sees it as helping to boost Europe's depleted bee population. We'll resist drawing parallels between honey production and share prices, but there are plans for pots of LSE honey to be dispensed as corporate gifts, which would send a wholesome, pro-work message – and could usefully be extended to bonuses.
