Losing your virginity is usually more awkward than the Hollywood movies make it out to be.

But for Catarina Migliorini, the 20 year-old Brazilian woman who was to sell her virginity for $780, 000, the prospect was just too uncomfortable.

Last year Catarina caused headlines and a great deal of moral debate when it emerged that she was to sell her virginity for a documentary film called Virgins Wanted. A poll of Independent Voices readers found that 58 per cent of you considered this to be prostitution.

Ms Migliorini decided not to go ahead with the act, blaming filmmaker Justin Sisely, who came up with the idea, for not being honest and offering the promised payment.

Catarina said she thought it was going to be a serious documentary about young virgins, and told The Huffington Post:

“I felt I was a victim ... I was misled by Mr. Justin Sisely… I believe he is trying to defraud me and others.”

The highest bidder for Catarina’s virginity was a mysterious Japanese businessman who identified himself online simply as “Natsu”. But when they met she said that he didn’t match the description that Sisely had given her and they ended up not having sex.

Sisely, however, denied Migliorini's claims, telling the Huff Po. "We have the footage to prove otherwise".
