THE NATIONAL Cycling Strategy Board is unhappy - quite rightly, too. The Government told us that it wanted to see 6 per cent of all journeys being made on bicycle by the end of the decade. But at the moment, only 2 per cent of trips are made by bike. The grand target will almost certainly be missed.
It is hard to quibble with the conclusion of the NCSB that a government that claims to care deeply about the environment has let itself down by failing to invest sufficiently in this ultra-green method of transport. Perhaps it would help if the Department for Transport adopted a slogan. Our suggestion: "Two wheels good".
