The deficiencies of contemporary French culture, according to John Lichfield ("Lost in France?", Review, 30 November), include the lack of pretentious writers, the absence of soap operas or situation comedies, the obscurity of avant-garde artists and composers, and the collapse of the dogmatic intelligentsia. Great! When can we join?
