I WRITE to defend the name Evan, dismissed by Justine Picardie as unsuitable for her impending offspring ('Home Thoughts', Review, 27 March). Evan is a strong, simple and somehow pretty name. It is still comparatively unusual and often overlooked. It means 'youth' and is the Welsh form of John.
