I SYMPATHISE with Royston Jones's assertion (Letters, 1 May) that the English government (note English rather than British) has once again hijacked Welsh history. I would like to add a further detail: much of Edward I's castle building in the 13th century was financed out of Irish taxes. It is ironic but not unusual that imperialism in one country should finance the fortification of further conquest in a third nation.
