WALLACE Arnold should not count his chickens. Fifteen years of Conservative government is due to a sophisticated body of Tory voters who a) tell lies, particularly to opinion pollsters; b) employ their own unique form of logic: 'They got us into this mess so I'm voting for them to get us out of it'; and c) vote Tory because opposition parties will destroy the economy, increase taxes, run down the defence industry and negotiate with the IRA. A 28 per cent lead can count for nothing in the strange world of British politics.
