WILLIAM LEITH's article on the nature of violence in films failed to take into account the role of the British Board of Film Classification which, while happy to pass any amount of 'violence', blanches at passing anything which shows the actual pain of violence. That violence for British cinema audiences has become synonymous with 'action' and not 'pain' is due in no small measure to the protection we've been given by film censors, and Reservoir Dogs is an exception to this general rule.
