AS A keen amateur, and one professionally involved in looking after plants, I was shocked to see reference to peat in the Planting Techniques section of 'Cultivate your dream' (Review, 23 May). If soil amelioration is necessary, there are many organic amendments available that do the job equally well at less environmental cost.
