YOU MUST give the Tories full credit for one thing at least ('Whips leave their mark', 12 July). That is their absolute evenhandedness in choice of targets in their dirty tricks campaign. The shabby treatment meted out to Nicholas Winterton (and other independent-minded Tory MPs in the past) is on a par with that meted out to members of the Opposition.
