ANOTHER great service Arthur Ransome did for the Russian people ('Swallows and Bolsheviks', Sunday Review, 9 August) was his version of 'Old Peter's Russian Tales'. As a child I was transported into an entirely different fantasy world containing no middle-class children in boats but heroes and villains with names like Sadko and Baba Yaga.
