CHRIS MACLEAN (Sunday Review, 9 August) need hardly be surprised at the neglect of Hugh MacDiarmid in either Scotland or England, although there is no doubt about his position as a leading poet of our time. Since when have we English celebrated Shakespeare's birthday or that of one of the world's great artists, J M W Turner?
