LETTER

I READ with interest your story that parliamentary opposition may finally stop rail privatisation in the New Year ("Further challenge to rail sale", 17 December). The French seem to have a better idea. Their rail workers went on strike for three weeks and stopped the plans of their unpopular right-wing government to wreck the railways there and then. What is more they didn't bother to have a ballot before they did it either.
