Sir: As a supporter of football in this country, and of London football in particular, I was deeply saddened by the loss of Bobby Moore, truly one of England's greatest sportsmen and truly a gentleman. The tributes of the great and good in your paper will sadly be forgotten, but Bobby will not. No amount of eloquence could ever sum up all of Bobby's qualities, for he was something different to everyone. Our memories may be different, but I believe we should all share together one national memory - The Bobby Moore Charity Shield.

The FA has many baubles it can claim are its alone, but surely it would be a tremendous gesture to allow the nation to remember its greatest footballer in a fitting way. Bobby's spirit was charitable, and this lasting tribute is surely the memorial that he would never have asked for, but would have been eternally grateful to receive.

Yours sincerely,

N. ELLIS
