Sir: With reference to the controversy over whether or not to invite German leaders to 50th anniversary celebrations of D-Day and the end of the war, perhaps the following suggestion may help. Would it not be more acceptable to invite German survivors of the death camps or those who actively opposed the Nazi regime? This would result in stifling anti-German sentiment and acknowledge the valid contribution that many Germans made towards the defeat of Nazism.
Yours faithfully,
