LETTER: A nation at war with its own government

THE French government could solve its public spending problems overnight by following the British example ("A nation at war with its own government", 10 December). Simply cut the weekly state pension by around pounds 100 to "harmonise" with the UK pension rate. Delegations of pensioners should be sent over to Paris to spread the message that masochism can be fun.
