Letter: A present from Santa

Sir: It was Christmas - peace on earth and goodwill to all men (and women, too, I hear). My sister and brother-in-law, adhering to the unwritten laws that govern this festive occasion, took their three- year-old son to visit Father Christmas at King's Heath, Birmingham. The lad, upon returning home, set about unwrapping his gift. What might it be? A Matchbox model? No. A bagatelle? No. A picture book? No.

What, in fact, this little boy received made his parents and myself shiver. A plastic flick-knife]

Yours sickened,

M. J. SARGENT
