I MUST correct an error in the reference to compulsory detention under the 1983 Mental Health Act. It is totally inaccurate to say that a person has 'to be a danger to themselves or others'. The person concerned has to be suffering from a mental illness and detention is necessary for the health or safety of that person or for the protection of others.
