Sir: E. H. Sondheimer (letter, 13 September) is absolutely right to defend the tea and coffee making facilities that Angie Petkovic criticised (10 September). As a tourist guide who has accompanied numerous French groups around Britain, I know that it is the one thing they praise to the skies about our hotels. I doubt whether they indulge in early morning 'cuppas' like the 'true Brits' Professor Sondheimer mentions, but they certainly find the facility 'tres civilise'.
