Sir: I read with some amusement the article 'Out of the West' by David Usborne in Wednesday's issue. He refers to an alleged letter written by an 87-year-old American lady from Mobile, Alabama, on 31 March, 1987.
I can recall a copy of this letter circulating in 1975 when I was secretary of our local Round Table and I passed a copy to our chairman to read out at one of our meetings. It was almost the same word for word.
I wonder where it did originate from - here or there?
Yours faithfully,
G. A. A. TYTHERLEIGH
