THE picture of the 'teeming masses' in Egypt ('Cairo takes its own precautions', 4 September) could equally well represent Oxford Street in the run-up to Christmas, or even Walthamstow on market day. Britain's population, like Egypt's, is confined to a small percentage of its total area. We, too, have unemployment, a housing shortage and crumbling public facilities. Why is it that only 'poor foreign' countries are considered to be over- populated?
