Letter: Assessment at Sussex

Sir: Your article on the Higher Education Quality Council's audit assessment of universities refers to an audit of the University of Sussex that was carried out a year and a half ago. At that time a major reorganisation of curriculums and of internal audit was under way. In itself this met most of the criticisms of the audit report.

For example, students now receive notice of their examination performance at each stage of their degree programme as well as regular informal feedback on course work. As part of our extensive commitment to staff development, we have also instituted a full programme of training for the new lecturers who have recently joined our faculty, and this course has been submitted for appropriate national accreditation.

Yours faithfully,

E. BROOKS
