Letter: Australia alone must decide

Sir: It is somewhat disgusting that in Australian political talks there has been no mention of the country's original people who may have their own ideas.

These people were never consulted about the many dumpings of British, and later other Europeans, who were not wanted in their own countries. It may well be possible that the original Australians would think that they had better treatment from one government than from another. We in Europe perhaps feel guilty about this, but push it away. Yet it was almost always a few people from outside who helped the original Australians to be treated as real people.

Yours faithfully,

NAOMI MITCHISON
