Sir: A few years ago a bird programme on the radio warned us not to put out bacon scraps for birds, on the grounds that the salt in the bacon causes kidney damage and eventually kills them. However, I have in front of me an RSPB booklet which lists chopped bacon rind as being suitable. What do reader experts think?
