BARONESS DENTON deceives no one by her disclaimer that she was quoted out of context when she says that she never took into account the political views of a candidate for a quango appointment - only their skills in relation to the job (Letters, 4 April).

I suppose it was just by chance that only Conservatives possessed the necessary qualifications for such appointments.
