Sir: You rightly complain of the pounds 7,500 fee for your reporter to accompany the Labour battlebus (Letter from the Editor, 12 April). The remedy is simple. Do not report any Labour activity for two days. Should they complain, your response could be that of their minder - "We are not a charity, you know."

An objection that you are not carrying out your journalistic duty could be met by identifying your new policy as that of "New Independent".
