Sir: Margaret Drabble's open letter to John Birt (11 April) prompts me to write and say that I have had a similar experience with the BBC. Twice I wrote to the corporation to inquire what, if any, plans it had to go international and put BBC 1 and/or BBC 2 on satellite to enable a potentially huge audience in Europe to receive British domestic television.
People in Europe are clamouring for it, and Britain would benefit. Twice I received no reply. Now that I know that not even Margaret Drabble is afforded the simple courtesy of an acknowledgement, what hope do I have?
Yours sincerely,
PAUL HORSTRUP
