Sir: It is understandable, perhaps, but nevertheless regrettable, that Michael Williams (Letters; "Whose waistcoat?", 8 August) struggling with the problem for meaning caused by an unrelated participle should, momentarily, no doubt, have forgotten about the correct forms when referring to members of the clergy.
"The Rev N. Fennemore", or, quite properly, "Mr Fennemore", are both acceptable. "Rev Fennemore", however, though current, is a vulgarism.
