Sir: The conclusions that you infer from the data in your article, '70% of convicted offenders are found to be unemployed', are spurious.

Seventy per cent of convicted offenders, who are unemployed, may have elected to turn to crime as a way of life rather than engage in gainful employment. In all probability, there is a link between unemployment and crime, but this is not the way to establish a causal relation.
